Description
Botanical name: Cyclopes Genistoides
Common names: Honey Bush (Eng,) Heuningbos (Afr.)
Family: Fabaceae
Honeybush tea has a distinct sweet taste and aroma and is made like ordinary tea, although simmering enhances its naturally sweet flavour.
Drinking honeybush tea is said to promote good health, stimulate the appetite and traditionally used as treatment for diabetes. The tea, made from the shoots of the shrub, contains no caffeine and also has a much lower tannin content than green and black teas.
To make Honeybush tea the stems and leaves are chopped into small pieces and fermented. After fermentation, the tea is sun-dried, sifted and is ready for use.
