Blue sage or Wild Sage is a fragrant shrub.
Uses:
Ancient and modern documented uses of the plant has described it as a remedy for chest colds, stomach ailments, flatulence, heartburn, and female ailments.
Preparation:
Applied externally as an antiseptic wash to treat ulcers or taken as a infusion or decogtion to relieve stomach-ache, headache and bronchial congestion associated with influenza or bronchitis
Precaution:
Sage is not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Use only in short term.
Dosage from SANBI (South African Biodiversity Institute:)
An infusion may be made with two tablespoonsful (±7.0g) of dried ground herb to which is added one litre of boiling water. The mixture is strained when cold. If fresh herb is used, four tablespoonsful of chopped leaf are infused with one litre of boiling water. Adults: Half a teacupful (90ml) three times daily. Children (6-12 years): Quarter of a teacupful (45ml) three times daily.
