Description
Botanical name: Verbascum Thapsus
Verbascum thapsus, commonly known as great mullein or common mullein, is a biennial herbaceous plant in the Scrophulariaceae family. Native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia, this plant has also been introduced to the Americas and other regions. It is easily recognised by its tall, fuzzy stem and dense rosette of woolly leaves at the base. In its second year, the plant produces a long flowering stalk with bright yellow flowers, which can reach up to 6 feet in height.
Common mullein has a long history of medicinal use. It is primarily used as an herbal remedy for respiratory conditions, such as coughs and bronchitis. The leaves and flowers are often made into teas, tinctures, or topical applications to soothe inflammation and promote healing. Despite being considered a weed in many areas, its medicinal properties make it a valuable plant in traditional herbal practices.
