Description

Botanical name: Salvia Apiana

Salvia apiana, commonly known as white sage, bee sage, or sacred sage, is an evergreen perennial shrub native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. This plant is well-known for its strong aromatic properties, characterised by a powerful and slightly acrid sage smell. White sage typically grows up to 1.5 meters tall and is recognised by its dramatic silver-gray foliage and tall flower spikes, which can reach heights of up to 9 feet (274 cm)
White sage holds cultural significance, particularly among Indigenous peoples, where it is often used in smudging ceremonies for purification and spiritual purposes. The plant thrives in desert environments, loving heat and full sunlight. Its large, pale leaves and imposing stature make it a distinctive plant among other local sages. In addition to its ceremonial uses, white sage also attracts pollinators like bees, hence the nickname “bee sage”
